Quality of Life Statistics

Health Care: Russell County Medical Center has 78 beds and offers 24 hour emergency care. Some additional services include Radiology Services, Respiratory Therapy, OBGYN, Orthopedic, Urologic, ENT, ICU Surgical Services including laser and laparoscopic surgery, & General Surgery. There are eleven clinics and seven nursing homes. There are 5 dentists and 25 physicians.

Hotels/Meeting Rooms: There are five hotels offering 201 rooms. There are 7 facilities offering meeting rooms.

Libraries: The Russell County Public library has over 40,000 volumes, as well as internet training & online services. In addition, a second branch has been established in the Town of Honaker.

Environment: Meandering through the heart of the County is the Clinch River, ranked #1 river in the Country by the Nature Conservancy for environmental diversity and significance. Through the Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, there are numerous put in and take out opportunities for boaters.

Outdoor opportunities include the Clinch Mountain Wildlife Area, the Pinnacle Natural Area Reserve, the Breaks Insterstate Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, and Natural Tunnel State Park.

Fishing: Laurel Bed Lake covers over 300 acres of Russell County providing excellent angling opportunities for trout. In addition, Hidden Valley Lake (to the south) provides a 61 acre fishing retreat with primitive camping sites.

Slates Campground is a private campground with electric, water, and cable tv hookups provided. Located on the Clinch River, it also provides a 2 mile hiking train excellent for hikers, wildflower & birding walks.

Racing Sports: Not only does Russell County provide a variety of outdoor and traditional sporting opportunities, we are located near Bristol International Raceway which hosts two of NASCAR's most exciting stock car races each year.

Lake Bonaventure Golf and Country Club has a 9 hole golf course, swimming pool, and a 35 acre lake for boating and fishing.

Community Parks: Russell County operates six community parks with tennis courts, ball fields, picnic areas and camping sites. Organized recreational programs are available year round for the entire family.

Cultural: Cultural activities include theater productions, local orchestra, dance classes, SWVA Vineyards Association, the Russell County Fair, Honaker Redbud Festival, Clinch River Days Festival, Lebanon Independence Day Celebration, and more.

Historical: Russell County has one of the richest historical backgrounds and opportunities in Southwestern Virginia. Some sites include the original courthouse, Jessee's Mill, Dickenson Bundy Log Home, Lebanon Cemetary, and more.

Religion: There are over 73 churches representing most major faiths in Russell County. A Jewish Synagogue is located nearby in Blountville, TN.

Shopping: Three shopping center provide a broad variety of products. National chain stores represented include Walmart, Rite Aid, Cato's, Radio Shack, Dollar Tree, Food City, and more.
